Recruitment 04: Training the Staff

Welcome to part 4 of the Recruiting blog post series! We have already reviewed Partnering with Others, Developing Materials, and Preparing for Applications. Please do look back at the earlier posts if you’ve missed them.

Today, we will look at resources that can help you with training everyone to play their part in the recruiting process.

You may want to develop specific training for ministry leaders in the particular skills and methods involved in recruiting, and offer training in some general areas.

Here are some general trainings that could be helpful for everyone.

    • “Your Story”:  Every staff person has a “Why I joined staff” story; some also have a “Why I am still on staff” story. 😉 When someone shares their personal story, including God’s provision, it can be a powerful motivation. This presentation outlines an easy way for each person to prepare their story so they have it ready for any one-on-one opportunity or recruiting event.
    • Conversaciones constructivas: Recruiting conversations can sometimes be tricky. The “Constructive Conversations” course is an excellent resource for preparing for those vital conversations.
    • Generational Issues: Some staff may not be familiar with the motivations and thinking of students and others they want to recruit. Training on generational differences can offer valuable insights. This presentation, “Generations,” can be downloaded and adapted for your context.

What other trainings do you offer or would you like to offer to your staff? How can we prepare everyone to be part of our recruiting efforts? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Terry Morgan

Hi! I’m Terry, married to Steve and mother of four adult children. I have worked with Cru for over 40 years, 20 of those years in Latin America. I am passionate about helping people find grace, hope, and growth by walking closely with Jesus. As part of that passion, I coach and train ministry leaders worldwide and create resources to help others grow. You will often find me in our patio garden, processing life with Jesus, with a cup of strong, black coffee in hand.
