LDHR for leaders (blog)

What Mission Leaders Need to Know

We know. You’re passionate about the mission, but since you became a leader, you seem to spend so much time on “people issues”. It’s not what you thought you were signing up for. We’re here to make that bit easier for you. Equipping front-line mission leaders is at the heart of what we do, right alongside supporting our LDHR staff. Whether you are new to leadership or have been serving for many years, we’ve got several tools and resources that can hopefully make your life and leadership easier and more effective:

  1. The Leadership Framework. Developed by mission leaders on the ground over a number of years, this framework outlines your key Relationships, the different Roles you play, the Responsibilities you hold, and the Results you are accountable for, all anchored in the Heart of the Leader. Understanding this big picture will accelerate your effectiveness in everything you do.
  2. The Staff Development Cycle. Understanding the three conversations you need to have with each of your team members not only maximises your effectiveness as a leader, but also focuses your team members’ work, addresses their developmental needs, and helps them feel known and needed. (And if you’re having difficulty figuring out a good developmental assignment – KDA, here are a LOAD of ideas for you!)
  3. The Leadership Pipeline Process. It may seem a strange place to start, but thinking about who will come after you will shape how you lead and develop others from Day 1. Whatever your scope, working with your peer leaders to think through your ministry’s future leadership needs, who might grow into those roles, and how you help them get ready is central to your leadership. (Maybe start with the LPP Lite tab.)
  4. Empowering Others course. As one of our key “Mindsets and Behaviours” courses for movement leaders, this course lets you learn from the wisdom of others from across the globe. You’ll enjoy learning why we empower others, how to do it, and how to deal with some of the cultural complexities.
  5. Building Powerful Ministry Teams. If you have not already experienced the depth and richness of the BPMT resources, you are in for a treat. This framework will enable your team to grow in effectiveness and relationships. As the resources are only available to leaders with the CCCI family of ministries, please contact BPMT@cru.org to connect with a trained facilitator.
